This interesting surname has a number of possible sources. Firstly, the surname may be of early medieval English origin, and is from the female given name "Hannah" or "Anna", from the Hebrew "Chana", meaning "He (God) has favoured me (i.e. with a child)". This was an extremely popular name in the form of "Anne" and its variations throughout Christendom, partly due to its being the name of the mother of Samuel in the Bible, and to the belief that St. Anne was the mother of the Virgin Mary. Secondly, the surname may be Scottish, where it is also found as Hannay, and means "son of Senach", from the Gaelic "ap Sheanaigh"...Select Audience

Trying to locate distant relatives? My father was Thomas Oliver Hannah from the county of Donegal. He moved to England and Married Pauline Francis Jean Hannah in Yorkshire. I know that he had a brother or brother in law Paul and a sister I believe called Jessie in the south of England. I know one brother went to America. One brother had to leave the family due to troubles he had caused. My parents divorced and Tom moved to Wales where he died a few years ago he was never forthcoming with his family details and people on my mothers side old enough to remember details unfortunately have all passed! Family members donโt seem too important when you are young but with age comes wisdom and a desire to find distant relatives and of relatives who have sadly passed. There are two more to the Hannah clan my eldest Rebecca Brook Hannah and my son Ashley Thomas Hannah both are doing well in their chosen professions and are a credit to the family!
